Leviathan Wakes - Space Zombies or something more?

The beginning of the Expanse series is an interesting story full of space goo and zombie-isa characters that our heroes (Jim Holden et al) must battle and out wit.  I would say that there is a fair amount of politics and tension in this series.   My hope is that the SyFi series will not botch it up by focusing on the monsters and neglecting the character development that highlights the books.
